Shelby County Man Indicted on Firearm, Drug Charges After TBI Arrest
TBI agents discovered marijuana and handgun during Memphis Safe Task Force operation, leading to felony charges against 23-year-old suspect.

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE β A Shelby County man faces felony firearm and drug charges after Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents discovered marijuana and a handgun in his possession during a November task force operation, officials announced.
Latavion Shaw, born March 9, 2003, was arrested on November 28, 2025, when TBI warrant team members encountered him while searching for another fugitive as part of the Memphis Safe Task Force. During that encounter, agents located marijuana and a handgun in Shaw’s possession, leading to his immediate arrest.
Grand Jury Returns Indictments
A Shelby County Grand Jury returned indictments against Shaw on May 19, charging him with one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony and one count of Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Manufacture, Deliver, or Sell.
Shaw was taken into custody by local and federal law enforcement on May 27 and booked into the Shelby County Jail on a $100,000 bond, according to TBI officials.
Memphis Safe Task Force Operations
The arrest occurred during ongoing Memphis Safe Task Force operations, which involve multiple law enforcement agencies working together to apprehend fugitives and address violent crime in the Memphis area. Shaw’s encounter with law enforcement happened while agents were pursuing a separate fugitive investigation.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation emphasized that the charges and allegations are merely accusations of criminal conduct, not evidence. Shaw is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted through due process of law.
The case is part of broader efforts by state and local law enforcement to address firearms and drug-related offenses in Shelby County. The Memphis Safe Task Force continues its operations targeting fugitives and violent crime in the region.
