NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE β The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is accepting applications for a Special Agent Criminal Investigator position in its Criminal Investigations Division serving West Tennessee, with a salary range of $5,647 to $9,005 monthly.
The state agency seeks one qualified candidate for the Special Agent Criminal Investigator 1 position. Applications will be accepted from May 13, 2026, through May 19, 2026, spanning five business days.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
The position involves conducting criminal investigations, processing crime scenes, and developing prosecutable criminal cases against individuals who violate state and federal laws. Special agents will conduct interviews, arrest suspects, and may operate surveillance equipment as part of their duties.
The role requires maintaining regular contact with law enforcement agencies and witnesses to gather intelligence and conduct investigations. Special agents will prepare investigative reports for use by the District Attorney General’s Office and U.S. Attorney Office for prosecution purposes.
Qualifications and Compensation
Candidates must have graduated from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree to meet the minimum qualifications for the position.
The TBI offers pay incentives above the minimum salary. Candidates with graduate degrees or relevant certifications can receive an additional 5 percent compensation increase. Experience in investigative law enforcement can add up to 10 percent to the base salary, calculated at 2 percent per year of relevant experience.
