JACKSON, TENNESSEE — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has announced an opening for a Forensic Scientist 1 position at its Jackson Laboratory in Madison County, with applications being accepted through May 26, 2026.
The position, located within the Forensic Biology Unit, offers a monthly salary range of $5,647 to $9,005. The job posting opened today and will remain active for ten business days.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements
The forensic scientist will analyze physical, biological, or chemical evidence submitted to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and compose technical laboratory reports describing test results. The role requires using and maintaining advanced scientific instrumentation.
Duties include consulting with criminal court attorneys and testifying in local, state, and federal courts on forensic analysis results. The scientist will also serve as a consultant to law enforcement investigators across Tennessee and participate in crime scene investigations requiring 24/7 on-call status on a rotating basis.
Educational Requirements
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, other natural or physical sciences, forensic science, or other forensic-related areas. The position requires a minimum of thirty-six quarter hours or twenty-four semester hours in chemistry or equivalent chemistry and forensic science related coursework.
Forensic Biology applicants must have completed additional college coursework in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, and Statistics. All candidates must upload a transcript showing chemistry credits with their employment application to allow proper evaluation of their eligibility.
