KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI β€” Vice President JD Vance highlighted the Trump administration’s manufacturing achievements during a campaign-style rally Monday afternoon, speaking to an enthusiastic crowd at a “protecting American workers” event.

Vance addressed supporters at the nearly century-old Milbank Manufacturing company, praising President Donald Trump’s efforts to strengthen manufacturing and pointing to increased job growth. The vice president cited what he called the “biggest growth in manufacturing employment last quarter” since Trump’s first term.

According to the St. Louis Federal Reserve, Missouri reported 12,596 manufacturing employees in April, representing a slight increase after steady decreases since November 2024, when the state had 12,711 such employees.

Tax Legislation and Political Opposition

The vice president discussed the Working Families Tax Cut Act, previously known as the One Big Beautiful Bill, emphasizing its role in lowering taxes. Vance noted that all but one Democrat voted against the legislation.

“I hate to say it, ladies and gentlemen β€” it is not the Democratic Party that my mamaw and papaw belonged to,” Vance told the crowd. “It’s not the Democratic Party that was patriotic and believed in supporting working people. It’s the Democratic party that has been given over, unfortunately, to a lot of crazy people.”

As the audience shouted in agreement, Vance argued that Republicans are the only party fighting to protect jobs and provide tax cuts for working-class Missourians.

Redistricting Efforts Praised

Vance and several politicians, including Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe, spoke about the importance of the new Missouri congressional district maps during the event. The redistricting efforts have recently become a topic of political discussion in the state.

The May 18 event drew a small but vocal crowd of supporters who responded enthusiastically to Vance’s remarks about manufacturing policy and political priorities. The venue choice of Milbank Manufacturing underscored the administration’s focus on supporting American industrial workers and companies.
