Flood Threat Lifted for Big Creek at Blairstown, NWS Says
Forecasters say reduced rainfall projections have eliminated the flooding risk that was previously expected along Big Creek near the small Bates County community.

BLAIRSTOWN, MISSOURI β A Hydrologic Outlook warning of potential flooding along Big Creek at Blairstown is no longer in effect, the National Weather Service announced Thursday evening.
The NWS Kansas City/Pleasant Hill office issued the cancellation at 8:09 PM CDT on June 25, 2026, stating that flooding previously forecast for the area is not expected to occur.
Why the Threat Was Downgraded
Forecasters attributed the change to revised precipitation estimates. According to the National Weather Service, forecasted rainfall totals for the region were lowered, reducing the risk of high water along Big Creek.
The agency did not specify what the original rainfall projections were or by how much they were reduced in the outlook notice.
What Residents Should Know
Although the immediate flooding threat has passed, weather and stream conditions can change. The National Weather Service Kansas City/Pleasant Hill office directed residents to www.weather.gov/kc/ for the latest weather and stream information in the area.
Hydrologic Outlooks are issued by the National Weather Service when there is a potential for flooding, allowing communities and emergency managers time to prepare. When conditions improve, as in this case, the agency cancels the outlook to reflect updated forecasts.
