UFC Freedom 250 Brings Bloody MMA Bouts to White House South Lawn for Trump’s 80th Birthday
Justin Gaethje defeated Ilia Topuria in a lightweight title bout on the White House South Lawn as President Trump marked his 80th birthday cageside at UFC Freedom 250.

WASHINGTON, D.C. β President Donald Trump marked his 80th birthday Sunday watching a multimillion-dollar mixed martial arts event staged on the White House South Lawn. Fighter jet flyovers, a live military band, and fireworks accompanied the spectacle tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations.
A First-of-Its-Kind Event at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
The event, promoted by Las Vegas-based Ultimate Fighting Championship and billed as UFC Freedom 250, was broadcast exclusively on the paid subscription platform Paramount+. Trump attended cageside throughout the evening, which featured several firsts for the historic presidential residence.
Pre-fight sports commentary was broadcast live from inside the White House itself, and fighters used offices in the neighboring Eisenhower Executive Office Building as makeshift locker rooms before their bouts, according to Tennessee Lookout reporting.
The Trump-organized event was not affiliated with America 250, the nonpartisan national organization and congressional commission overseeing the country’s official semiquincentennial celebrations.
Gaethje Defeats Topuria in Lightweight Title Bout
Justin Gaethje defeated Ilia Topuria in the lightweight title bout, one of the featured fights of the evening. Following his victory, Gaethje spoke with President Trump at cageside, according to Tennessee Lookout.
The post-fight remarks drew additional attention after one of the contestants aired a conspiracy theory about former First Lady Michelle Obama during comments following their match, according to Tennessee Lookout.
Corporate Presence, Controversy on White House Grounds
In the days leading up to the event, corporate logos were prominently displayed across White House grounds as crews prepared the venue for the fights, according to reporting from States Newsroom. The UFC ring was installed on the South Lawn by at least June 11, 2026.
The combination of a commercial blood sport staged at the White House, the conspiracy theory aired during post-fight commentary, and the use of federal grounds for a privately streamed pay-platform event drew widespread attention in the days following the June 15 celebration.
