ELSIE, MICHIGAN β The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac issued a tornado warning for southwestern Saginaw County and northwestern Shiawassee County until 12:30 PM EDT on June 9, as radar detected rotation in a severe thunderstorm system moving through the region.
At 11:49 AM EDT, the dangerous storm was positioned over Elsie, approximately 10 miles east of St. Johns, traveling northeast at 20 miles per hour with radar-indicated rotation capable of producing a tornado.
Storm Path and Timeline
Weather officials warned the tornadic thunderstorm would reach Henderson around 11:55 AM EDT, followed by Oakley at noon and Marion Springs by 12:10 PM EDT. The storm system also threatens the communities of Brant, Fenmore, and Carland.
The National Weather Service highlighted the severe nature of the threat, warning that flying debris would pose significant danger to anyone caught without adequate shelter. Mobile homes face particular risk of damage or complete destruction from the storm system.
