Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announces two openings for specialized criminal investigators in its Aviation Division with salaries up to $9,005 monthly.

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE β The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced Tuesday it is seeking qualified candidates to fill two Special Agent Criminal Investigator positions within its Aviation Division at TBI headquarters in Nashville.
The positions offer a monthly salary range of $5,647 to $9,005, with an additional $500 per month assignment differential specifically for criminal investigators assigned to the Aviation Division. Candidates with advanced qualifications may receive additional compensation incentives.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements
Selected agents will conduct criminal investigations, process crime scenes, and develop prosecutable criminal cases against individuals who violate state and federal laws. The role involves conducting interviews, arresting suspects, and potentially operating surveillance equipment.
Aviation-specific duties include providing aviation support for law enforcement and public safety flight operations. Agents will participate in search and rescue missions, fugitive apprehensions, and disaster response efforts while coordinating with local, state, and federal partners.
Technical responsibilities include managing live video downlink systems, employing geospatial mapping software such as ArcGIS and Shotover/Churchill systems, and operating advanced radio communications equipment including UHF, VHF, and 800MHz systems. Agents will also integrate and maintain mission system equipment onboard aircraft.
Qualifications and Compensation
The minimum requirement is graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Preferred qualifications include holding a private pilot’s license and experience with airborne mission system equipment.
The TBI offers several pay incentives above the base salary. Candidates with graduate degrees or relevant professional certifications receive an additional 5 percent compensation boost. Up to an additional 10 percent is available for various combinations of relevant experience.
Investigative law enforcement experience earns 2 percent per year, while relevant Search and Rescue experience also provides 2 percent per year. The posting indicates additional experience categories may qualify for compensation increases, though the complete list was not fully detailed in the announcement.
Application Process
Successful candidates will prepare investigative reports for use by the District Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for prosecution purposes. The Aviation Division positions represent specialized roles within the state’s primary investigative agency.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation serves as the state’s lead criminal investigative agency, handling complex cases that often require specialized resources and expertise. The Aviation Division supports operations across Tennessee through aerial surveillance, search and rescue capabilities, and emergency response coordination.
