Dense Fog Advisory, Heat Warning Impact Michigan Residents Today

DETROIT, MICHIGAN β€” Michigan residents face a combination of dangerous weather conditions today as dense fog blankets northern regions while extreme heat threatens southwestern areas of the state.

The National Weather Service issued a Dense Fog Advisory at 3:27 a.m. for portions of Eastern Upper and Northern Lower Michigan, warning of visibility as low as one quarter mile or less. The advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. this morning.

“Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous,” officials warned in the advisory issued by NWS Gaylord.

Heat Advisory Affects Southwest Michigan

Meanwhile, southwestern Michigan residents must contend with dangerous heat conditions as the National Weather Service Northern Indiana office issued a Heat Advisory at 3:11 a.m. The advisory covers portions of northern Indiana and southwest Michigan.

Heat index values around 100 degrees are expected from noon today until 8 p.m. this evening. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses, according to weather officials.

Safety Precautions Urged

The dual weather hazards create challenging conditions across different regions of Michigan. Drivers in northern areas should reduce speeds, increase following distances, and use low beam headlights while navigating through the dense fog.

Residents in heat-affected areas should take precautions to prevent heat-related illness by staying hydrated, seeking air-conditioned environments, and limiting outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.

The fog advisory is expected to lift by late morning as temperatures rise, while the heat advisory will remain in effect through the evening hours for southwestern Michigan communities.
