KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI β€” Multiple rivers across northern Missouri remain under flood warnings as of Sunday evening, with the Grand River, Thompson River, and Platte River experiencing minor to moderate flooding conditions, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill.

The most significant flooding is occurring along the Grand River near Sumner, where moderate flooding continues with the river level at 33.2 feet as of Sunday at 7:45 PM CDT. The river is expected to crest at 34.8 feet Tuesday morning before falling below flood stage early Thursday morning, with the flood warning extending until late Thursday night.

Grand River System Impacts

The Grand River near Chillicothe is experiencing moderate flooding at 30.6 feet as of Sunday evening. The National Weather Service forecasts the river will rise to 32.2 feet Monday morning, then fall before rising again to 29.0 feet early Tuesday morning. The flood warning for this location continues until Wednesday afternoon.

Near Gallatin, the Grand River reached 29.4 feet Sunday evening and is expected to crest at 30.2 feet Monday morning. The river should fall below flood stage late Monday evening, with the warning in effect until Tuesday evening.

At Pattonsburg, the Grand River measured 27.2 feet at 7:30 PM CDT Sunday, above the 25.0-foot flood stage. The river is forecast to fall below flood stage late Sunday evening and continue dropping to 3.0 feet by Friday evening.

Additional River Warnings

The Thompson River at Trenton recorded a stage of 29.3 feet at 4:45 PM CDT Sunday, with flooding expected to continue until late Monday night. At 30.0 feet, backwater along the Weldon River causes flooding at Northwest 22nd Avenue and Route A north of Trenton.

The Platte River near Agency reached 20.6 feet Sunday evening, just above the 20.0-foot flood stage. The river is expected to crest at 22.9 feet early Monday afternoon before falling below flood stage Tuesday evening.

Future Concerns

A hydrologic outlook issued for the Grand River near Brunswick warns of potential flooding later this week. The river is forecast to reach 19.6 feet at 7 PM Wednesday, exceeding the 19.0-foot flood stage. Current projections show the river rising from 6.0 feet Sunday to 14.8 feet Monday and 17.8 feet Tuesday.

The affected counties include Buchanan, Carroll, Chariton, Daviess, Gentry, Grundy, Linn, and Livingston. The National Weather Service warns that later statements and possible warnings may be issued as additional information becomes available regarding rainfall and runoff conditions.
