MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE β€” The National Weather Service issued a dense fog advisory for parts of West Tennessee and North Mississippi on Saturday morning, warning drivers of hazardous conditions with visibility reduced to one-quarter mile or less.

The advisory took effect at 4:18 AM CDT and is scheduled to remain in place until 9:00 AM CDT today, according to the National Weather Service Memphis office.

Driving Conditions Affected

Officials warned that the severely limited visibility could create dangerous driving conditions throughout the affected regions. The dense fog is expected to significantly impact morning commutes and travel plans across the area.

Motorists are advised to reduce speeds, use low-beam headlights, and maintain increased following distances when driving through fog-affected areas. High-beam headlights should be avoided as they can reflect off fog particles and further reduce visibility.

Areas Under Advisory

The advisory covers multiple counties across West Tennessee and North Mississippi, where fog formation overnight created the hazardous visibility conditions. The weather service indicated that conditions should gradually improve as temperatures rise throughout the morning hours.

Drivers planning to travel during the advisory period are encouraged to allow extra time for their commutes and consider delaying non-essential travel until visibility improves. The fog is expected to lift as morning temperatures increase and atmospheric conditions change.

The National Weather Service continues to monitor conditions and will provide updates if the advisory needs to be extended or modified based on changing weather patterns in the region.
