OTTERVILLE, MISSOURI β The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Lamine River near Otterville, with moderate flooding expected to begin Saturday morning and continue through Monday morning.
The river is forecast to crest at 18.9 feet Saturday evening, well above the 15.0-foot flood stage, according to the weather service’s Kansas City office. As of 1:15 a.m. Saturday, the river stage measured 12.5 feet.
The warning, issued at 1:58 a.m. Saturday, affects Cooper County and represents an upgrade from earlier forecasts that predicted only minor flooding.
Expected Impacts
At the predicted crest of 18.9 feet, several transportation routes will likely be affected. Some gravel roads upstream and downstream from Otterville are expected to be under water.
State Highway 135 may also be overtopped by flood waters approximately two miles north of Clifton City, potentially disrupting regional travel patterns.
Low-lying woodlands and fields along the river will experience flooding once the water level reaches 15.0 feet, the designated flood stage for this location.
Timeline and Recovery
The river is expected to rise above flood stage late Saturday morning, according to National Weather Service forecasters. Water levels should peak Saturday evening before beginning to recede.
Officials predict the river will fall below flood stage Sunday morning, with the warning set to expire Monday morning at 7:56 a.m.
