PARIS, TENNESSEE β€” The National Weather Service issued flood warnings and advisories for parts of West Tennessee on June 12 due to excessive rainfall causing urban and small stream flooding across Henry and Weakley counties.

Trained weather spotters reported minor flooding in the warned area as of 8:31 a.m. CDT, according to the National Weather Service Memphis office. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain had fallen by that time, with additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch possible.

The flood warning, issued at 8:33 a.m. CDT, remained in effect until 10:45 a.m. CDT. A separate flood advisory issued at 8:11 a.m. covered the same timeframe for the affected counties.

Multiple Communities Affected

Weather officials identified numerous locations expected to experience flooding throughout the morning hours. The affected areas include Paris, Paris Landing State Park, Dresden, Gleason, Cottage Grove, Routon, Palmersville, Puryear, Henry, Osage, Whitlock, Foundry Hill, Mill Creek, Jones Mill, Porter Court, Como, Crossland, Conyersville, India and Ore Springs.

At 8:10 a.m. CDT, trained spotters specifically reported minor flooding and ponding in urban areas of Henry County, where between 1 and 2 inches of rain had accumulated.

Flood Impacts and Safety Concerns

The National Weather Service warned that flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations was imminent or already occurring. Officials expected many areas to experience slow moving or standing water throughout the morning.

Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas was anticipated, with ponding of water in urban areas already occurring or imminent as the heavy rainfall continued.

The weather service highlighted the ongoing flooding situation, noting that the additional expected rainfall would result in continued minor flooding across the region. Residents were advised to monitor conditions and avoid flooded roadways.
