Tornado Watch Issued for Northern Missouri Counties Through 3 PM
Tornado watches cover multiple northern Missouri counties until 3 PM as severe storms bring damaging winds and hail across the region.

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI β The National Weather Service has issued multiple tornado and severe thunderstorm watches across northern Missouri counties on Tuesday morning, with dangerous weather conditions expected to persist through the afternoon.
Tornado Watch 311 remains in effect until 3:00 PM CDT for four Missouri counties, including Putnam, Schuyler, Sullivan, and Adair counties in the north central and northeastern regions of the state. The watch covers the cities of Downing, Glenwood, Greentop, Lancaster, Queen City, Unionville, Green City, Kirksville, and Milan.
The tornado watch replaced portions of an earlier Severe Thunderstorm Watch 310, which continues until 10:00 AM CDT for five counties in north central and northwest Missouri. The severe thunderstorm watch includes Harrison, Mercer, Gentry, Nodaway, and Worth counties, affecting the cities of Albany, Bethany, Grant City, King City, Maryville, Mercer, Princeton, and Stanberry.
Active Weather Warning Underway
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued earlier Tuesday morning for northeastern Sullivan County, Putnam County, and northern Schuyler County, lasting until 7:45 AM CDT. Weather service radar indicated a severe thunderstorm near Unionville moving northeast at 50 mph at 6:57 AM CDT.
The storm carried 60 mph wind gusts and half dollar-size hail, according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill. Officials warned that hail damage to vehicles was expected, along with wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Locations directly impacted by the severe thunderstorm warning included Unionville, Lancaster, Glenwood, Worthington, Livonia, and Lemons.
Multi-State Weather System
The severe weather system extends beyond Missouri’s borders, with the National Weather Service Quad Cities office issuing Tornado Watch 311 for portions of Illinois and Iowa as well. The watch covers 13 counties in Illinois and 21 counties in Iowa, along with Clark County in northeastern Missouri.
Illinois counties under the tornado watch include Bureau, Putnam, Carroll, Henry, Jo Daviess, Mercer, Rock Island, Stephenson, Whiteside, Hancock, Henderson, McDonough, and Warren counties. In Iowa, the watch affects counties across the eastern, northeastern, and southeastern regions of the state.
Both the Kansas City/Pleasant Hill and Quad Cities National Weather Service offices are monitoring the developing weather situation as storms move through the region throughout Tuesday.
