Multiple Weather Warnings Impact Northern Ohio Through Friday
Heat advisories, severe thunderstorm watches, and dangerous Lake Erie rip current warnings create multiple hazards across northern Ohio through Friday evening.

CLEVELAND, OHIO β Multiple weather warnings are affecting northern Ohio through Friday evening, with heat advisories, severe thunderstorm watches, and dangerous beach conditions creating hazardous situations across the region.
The National Weather Service Cleveland office issued a heat advisory on June 11 at 9:43 a.m. EDT that remains in effect until 8:00 p.m. today, warning of peak heat index values reaching around 100 degrees across portions of north central, northeast, and northwest Ohio. Officials warn that hot temperatures combined with high humidity may cause heat-related illnesses.
A severe thunderstorm watch designated as Watch 312 was issued at 1:21 p.m. EDT and extends until 8:00 p.m. tonight, covering five Ohio counties and two Pennsylvania counties. The watch affects Ashtabula, Mahoning, Portage, Stark, and Trumbull counties in Ohio, along with Crawford and Erie counties in Pennsylvania.
Cities Under Severe Weather Watch
The thunderstorm watch includes multiple cities across the affected counties: Alliance, Ashtabula, Aurora, Austintown, Boardman, Canton, Conneaut, Erie, Geneva, Kent, Massillon, Meadville, Niles, Ravenna, Streetsboro, Titusville, Warren, and Youngstown.
Weather service meteorologists warn that the combination of atmospheric conditions could produce severe thunderstorms capable of damaging winds and large hail throughout the watch area.
Dangerous Lake Erie Conditions Expected
Beach hazard statements issued at 3:54 p.m. EDT today warn of high rip current risks along Lake Erie shorelines beginning late tonight and extending through Friday. The warnings affect different counties with varying end times based on local conditions.
Ottawa and Erie counties face dangerous currents from 2:00 a.m. EDT Friday through Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. EDT. Lorain and Cuyahoga counties will experience hazardous conditions from 2:00 a.m. EDT Friday through Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
The most extended warning covers Lake County and Ashtabula County lakeshore areas in Ohio, along with northern Erie County in Pennsylvania, where dangerous conditions will persist from late tonight through Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. EDT.
According to the National Weather Service, wind and wave action will create strong currents along the lakeshore that can carry swimmers away from shore through sand bars and along structures extending into the lake. Officials strongly advise swimmers to avoid entering the water during the advisory period.
Safety Recommendations
Weather officials recommend residents take precautions against heat-related illness by staying hydrated, seeking air conditioning when possible, and limiting outdoor activities during peak heat hours. Those in areas under the severe thunderstorm watch should monitor weather conditions and have plans to seek shelter if warnings are issued.
Beachgoers planning Lake Erie activities should postpone swimming and water recreation until conditions improve. The dangerous rip currents pose significant risks even to experienced swimmers, as the currents can quickly pull people away from shore into deeper water.
The National Weather Service continues monitoring conditions and may issue additional warnings or extend current advisories based on evolving weather patterns across northern Ohio and western Pennsylvania.
