COLUMBUS, OHIO — Dense fog developed across central Ohio early Tuesday morning, reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less in some areas, according to the National Weather Service.
The fog warning was issued at 6:17 a.m. Tuesday by NWS Charleston, alerting drivers to use extreme caution during morning commutes. Weather officials advised motorists to use low beam headlights and maintain greater distances between vehicles due to rapidly changing visibility conditions.
Recent Severe Weather Activity
The fog advisory follows a series of severe weather events that moved through Ohio over the past two days. On Monday afternoon, Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm over Perry State Forest moving east at 25 mph, bringing wind gusts up to 50 mph and nickel-sized hail.
The Monday storm system impacted several communities in southeastern Ohio, including New Lexington, Perry State Forest, Crooksville, Rendville, and Eagleport. The National Weather Service warned that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects, while minor hail damage to vegetation was possible.
Regional Weather Pattern
Weather officials have been tracking multiple storm systems across the region since Sunday. On May 26, radar detected another strong thunderstorm 12 miles southeast of Columbus near Lake Bowen, moving northeast at 25 mph with wind gusts reaching 40 mph.
That Sunday storm affected areas extending into South Carolina, impacting Rutherfordton, Boiling Springs, Inman, Chesnee, Lake Bowen, Campobello, Lyman, Green Creek, Harris, and Fingerville.
