GREENEVILLE, TENNESSEE β€” A flood advisory issued by the National Weather Service office in Morristown, Tennessee, expired at 9:45 a.m. EDT Sunday morning for Greene County in east Tennessee, according to NWS Morristown.

The advisory had been issued earlier that morning at 9:35 a.m. EDT, giving residents and drivers a brief 10-minute warning window as heavy rainfall moved through the area.

Heavy Rain Passes, Road Closures Remain

The National Weather Service confirmed that the heavy rain had ended as of the advisory expiration, but urged the public to remain cautious. Despite the rain stopping, officials warned that road closures tied to the flooding were still in effect.

“The heavy rain has ended for the time. Please continue to heed remaining road closures,” the NWS Morristown advisory stated.

Greene County the Only Affected Area

The flood advisory covered a portion of east Tennessee, with Greene County listed as the sole affected area under the alert. No other counties in the region were included in the advisory.

Residents in Greene County were advised to avoid flooded roadways and to stay alert for any updated guidance from local emergency management officials. The National Weather Service may issue additional alerts if conditions change throughout the day.

What Drivers Should Know

Flood-related road closures can remain in place even after rain ends, as water levels on roads and in low-lying areas may take time to recede. Drivers are urged to follow posted closure signs and avoid attempting to cross flooded roads, in line with standard guidance from the National Weather Service.

No injuries or property damage figures were included in the advisory issued by NWS Morristown. Additional updates from the National Weather Service or Greene County emergency officials are expected if conditions warrant further action.
