Visibility Dropping to Quarter-Mile or Less
According to the National Weather Service, visibility is dropping to one-quarter of a mile or less in affected areas due to dense fog. Conditions at that level of reduced visibility can make it extremely difficult for drivers to see other vehicles, road signs, and hazards in time to react safely.
The NWS warned that low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous across the affected counties. Motorists traveling through Franklin County, Tennessee, or the three listed Alabama counties during the morning hours were urged to use caution.
Affected Areas
The advisory covers the following counties:
- Franklin County, Tennessee
- DeKalb County, Alabama
- Jackson County, Alabama
- Marshall County, Alabama
The Dense Fog Advisory was set to expire at 9:00 AM CDT Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville.
Driving Safety During Dense Fog
Drivers in affected areas were advised to slow down, increase following distances, and use low-beam headlights rather than high beams when navigating through foggy conditions. Pulling off the road to a safe location and waiting for the fog to lift is also an option for those uncomfortable driving in reduced visibility.
