Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Metro Detroit Area Sunday Evening
Radar-indicated storm with 60 mph winds and quarter-size hail moved through Warren toward metro Detroit communities Sunday evening.

DETROIT, MICHIGAN β The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning Sunday evening for northeastern Wayne County and southern Macomb County, bringing dangerous winds and hail to the metro Detroit area.
The warning, issued at 7:48 p.m. EDT, remained in effect until 8:30 p.m. EDT. At 7:47 p.m., radar indicated a severe thunderstorm was positioned over Warren, moving northeast at 40 mph.
Wind and Hail Threats
The storm system posed significant threats to the region, with meteorologists warning of 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. The National Weather Service cautioned that hail damage to vehicles was expected, along with wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Weather officials specifically alerted people attending events at Comerica Park to seek safe shelter immediately due to the approaching severe weather conditions.
Affected Communities
The storm’s projected path included several major metropolitan areas. Warren, St. Clair Shores, Mount Clemens, Grosse Pointe, Sterling Heights, and Clinton Township were expected to experience severe weather around 7:55 p.m. EDT.
New Baltimore was forecast to encounter the storm system around 8:10 p.m. EDT as the weather front continued its northeastern trajectory.
Additional Areas at Risk
The National Weather Service identified numerous other locations that would be impacted by the severe thunderstorm. These communities included Northeast Detroit, Harper Woods, Grosse Pointe Shores, Center Line, Roseville, Hamtramck, Grosse Pointe Woods, Grosse Pointe Park, Grosse Pointe Farms, and Fraser.
The warning originated from the National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac office, which monitors weather conditions across southeastern Michigan. Radar technology was used to track and confirm the storm’s intensity and movement patterns.
Residents in the affected areas were advised to monitor weather conditions closely and take appropriate safety precautions during the severe weather event.
