JEFFERSON CITY, MISSOURI β€” The Moreau River near Jefferson City reached minor flood stage Sunday morning and is expected to crest at 18.6 feet this afternoon before beginning to recede, according to the National Weather Service.

Minor Flooding Continues

The flood warning covers minor flooding that began earlier in the weekend. River levels have remained steady, with the maximum stage in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 a.m. Sunday reaching 17.6 feet.

The National Weather Service bases its river forecasts on observed precipitation and forecast precipitation for the next 24 hours. Weather officials from the St. Louis office issued the warning at 9:39 a.m. Sunday.

Residents in flood-prone areas along the Moreau River should monitor conditions and avoid driving through flooded roadways. The river is expected to return to normal levels by Monday evening as the flood warning expires.
