DAVENPORT, IOWA β€” The National Weather Service issued Tornado Watch 122 on Tuesday afternoon, covering 23 counties across eastern Iowa, western Illinois, and northeast Missouri until 9:00 PM CDT.

The watch, which went into effect at 3:41 PM CDT, includes 21 counties in Iowa, such as Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Davenport, and Dubuque. Two counties in northwest Illinois and two counties in northeast Missouri are also part of the watch area.

Affected Counties and Cities

In Iowa, the tornado watch covers east central counties including Benton, Cedar, Clinton, Iowa, Jackson, Johnson, Jones, Linn, Muscatine, and Scott. Northeast Iowa counties under the watch include Buchanan, Delaware, and Dubuque.

Southeast Iowa counties included are Des Moines, Henry, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lee, Louisa, Van Buren, and Washington. The watch also extends into Jo Daviess and Rock Island counties in northwest Illinois, and Clark and Scotland counties in northeast Missouri.

Major Cities in Watch Zone

Cities specifically named in the tornado watch include Anamosa, Bettendorf, Burlington, Cedar Rapids, Clinton, Credit Island, Davenport, Dubuque, Fairfield, Galena, Independence, Iowa City, Kahoka, Keokuk, Keosauqua, Manchester, Maquoketa, and Marengo.

The National Weather Service issues tornado watches when atmospheric conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes. Residents in the affected areas should monitor weather conditions closely and be prepared to take shelter if tornado warnings are issued.

The watch is scheduled to expire at 9:00 PM CDT on Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, which issued the alert.
