In Arkansas, the tornado watch affects 10 counties in the eastern part of the state. These counties are Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, Cross, Greene, Lee, Mississippi, Phillips, Poinsett, and St. Francis.
Mississippi has the largest coverage area with 22 counties in the northern region under the tornado watch. Southeast Missouri Included
Two counties in southeast Missouri are also under the tornado watch. Dunklin and Pemiscot counties will remain under the watch through 10:00 PM CDT Monday.
The National Weather Service Memphis office issued the alert as atmospheric conditions across the region showed potential for severe thunderstorm development capable of producing tornadoes. Residents in the affected areas should monitor weather conditions closely and be prepared to take shelter if tornado warnings are issued.
A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornado development, while a tornado warning indicates a tornado has been spotted or detected on radar and immediate action should be taken.
