KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI β€” A Missouri conservative leader is outlining plans for the Republican Party’s future beyond the Trump era, arguing that principled conservatives remain committed to traditional party values and are organizing for the 2028 presidential race.

The Missouri state chair for Our Republican Legacy responded to recent questions about the direction of the Republican Party, asserting that the party “belongs to history, not to one man” and that conservative Republicans “are still here” and “not going anywhere.”

Our Republican Legacy was founded by former Missouri Sen. John Danforth, who previously served as U.S. Senator, United Nations Ambassador, and Missouri Attorney General. The organization focuses on preserving what it calls “Reagan-style conservatism” grounded in Unity, The Constitution, Fiscal Responsibility, Free Enterprise, and Peace through Strength.

Preparing for Political Transition

The Missouri chair emphasized that President Donald Trump “will not control the Republican Party forever,” noting that “no political figure does” due to the unpredictable nature of American politics and the complexity of governing.

“The currents of American political life are too unpredictable, the electorate too dynamic, the demands of governing too complex for any one personality to permanently define a major political coalition,” the chair stated in the response.

The organization rejects the premise that current Republican leadership represents a permanent transformation of the party that was once led by Abraham Lincoln, Dwight Eisenhower, and Ronald Reagan.

2028 Presidential Strategy

Our Republican Legacy is actively preparing to identify and support candidates for the 2028 presidential election who they believe hold “genuine conservative values rather than merely pay lip service to them.”

The group aims to build a coalition of Republicans at every level of government, though the organization places particular emphasis on finding a presidential candidate who aligns with their traditional conservative principles.

According to the Missouri chair, Senator Danforth “understands something that too many in today’s Republican Party have forgotten that the party is a vessel for values, not the other way around.”

Long-term Conservative Vision

The organization positions itself as preserving “the intellectual and moral infrastructure of a conservatism worth believing in” while waiting for political change to occur naturally.

“History is littered with figures who seemed immovable β€” until they moved,” the chair noted. “The question is never whether change will come. The question is whether honorable people are ready when it does.”

The Missouri-based group represents conservatives who have “spent their lives in the tradition of principled, Reagan-style conservatism” and have not “abandoned the party” or “gone quietly into political exile.”

Instead, they describe themselves as actively “waiting, organizing, and preserving” conservative principles while preparing for future political opportunities beyond the current Republican leadership structure.
