Flood Advisory Issued for Northern Michigan Counties Until Monday Morning
Ten northern Michigan counties face minor flooding from overnight thunderstorms, with up to 1.5 inches of rain already fallen.
GAYLORD, MICHIGAN — The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for ten northern Michigan counties early Monday morning, warning residents of minor flooding caused by overnight thunderstorms.
The advisory, issued at 3:38 a.m. and set to expire at 6:30 a.m., affects Alpena, Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Crawford, Montmorency, Oscoda, Otsego, Presque Isle, and Roscommon counties.
Doppler radar detected heavy rain from thunderstorms at 3:37 a.m., with minor flooding already occurring or expected shortly across the advisory area. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain had fallen by the time the alert was issued.
Flooding Impacts and Affected Areas
Weather officials expect minor flooding in low-lying areas with poor drainage, as well as small streams and creeks throughout the region. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are forecast, which will contribute to continued minor flooding conditions.
Numerous communities across northern Michigan face potential flooding impacts, according to the National Weather Service. The affected locations include Houghton Lake, Gaylord, Rogers City, Grayling, Roscommon, Onaway, Lewiston, Atlanta, St. Helen, Prudenville, Elmira, Ocqueoc, Lovells, Vanderbilt, Metz, Millersburg, Hetherton, Johannesburg, Chester Township, and Garland.
