Miami-Dade Hit by Severe Thunderstorms, Flooding Near Jackson Memorial
Thunderstorms dumped up to 3 inches of rain around Jackson Memorial Hospital, causing urban flooding and prompting weather advisories across Miami-Dade County.
MIAMI, FLORIDA — Severe thunderstorms brought heavy rainfall and flooding to Miami-Dade County on June 2, prompting weather warnings and causing water accumulation in low-lying areas around Jackson Memorial Hospital and downtown Miami.
The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory at 7:35 PM EDT on June 2, which remained in effect until 8:30 PM EDT. The advisory warned of urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall, with impacts including minor flooding in poor drainage areas and water over roadways.
According to the weather service, the public reported heavy rain around Jackson Memorial Hospital due to thunderstorms at 7:35 PM EDT. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain had already fallen in the area, with an additional 1 to 2 inches expected.
Areas Affected by Flooding
The flood advisory specifically mentioned several locations experiencing or likely to experience flooding, including Miami, Downtown Miami and Marlins Park. Jackson Memorial Hospital was identified as the most likely place to experience minor flooding due to overflowing poor drainage areas.
Earlier in the evening, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued at 6:00 PM EDT, expiring at 6:30 PM EDT. At that time, radar indicated a severe thunderstorm located over Doral, near Hialeah, moving northeast at 20 mph.

The severe thunderstorm brought 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail, according to the National Weather Service. Officials warned that hail damage to vehicles was expected, along with wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
The storm impacted numerous communities across Miami-Dade County. Locations affected included Miami, Hialeah, Miramar, Coral Gables, South Miami, Kendall, Doral, Miami Lakes, Hialeah Gardens, Miami Springs, Sweetwater, West Miami, Medley, Westchester, Glenvar Heights, Fountainbleau, Kendale Lakes, Pennsuco, Intersection Krome And U.S. 27, and The Hammocks.
