CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA β€” A heat advisory that prompted concerns about dangerous temperatures across the Charleston region expired Friday evening as developing thunderstorms and increased cloud cover brought gradual cooling to the area.

The National Weather Service Charleston office issued the heat advisory on June 13 at 4:48 p.m. EDT, warning residents of potentially hazardous conditions. The advisory remained in effect until 5:00 p.m. EDT the same day as weather patterns shifted to provide relief from the oppressive heat.

Thunderstorms Provide Cooling Relief

Meteorologists reported that developing thunderstorms and expanding cloud cover helped reduce temperatures throughout Friday afternoon. The weather system moved through the region as forecasters had predicted, bringing the dangerous heat conditions to an end.

The brief but intense heat advisory highlighted the rapid changes possible during summer weather patterns in the Lowcountry region.

Weekend Weather Outlook

Despite Friday’s cooling trend, weather officials cautioned that relief may be temporary. Hot and humid conditions could return as early as Sunday, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

The potential for renewed heat buildup over the weekend has prompted meteorologists to continue monitoring atmospheric conditions closely. Residents are advised to stay informed about changing weather conditions as the summer season progresses.

The Charleston area typically experiences its most intense heat during the summer months, when high humidity levels can make temperatures feel significantly higher than actual readings. Local emergency management officials routinely coordinate with the National Weather Service to ensure residents receive timely warnings about dangerous weather conditions.

Heat advisories are issued when the combination of heat and humidity creates conditions that could pose health risks to vulnerable populations, including elderly residents, young children, and those with certain medical conditions.
