BYROMVILLE, GEORGIA β€” The National Weather Service office in Peachtree City issued a Flood Warning Friday night for Turkey Creek at Byromville, with minor flooding currently occurring in Dooly County. The warning took effect at 10:47 p.m. EDT on June 19 and remains in place until 8:00 p.m. EDT Saturday, June 20.

Current Conditions

As of 9:45 p.m. EDT Friday, the river stage at Turkey Creek stood at 10.4 feet, already above the established flood stage of 10.0 feet. The 10.4-foot reading also represented the maximum stage recorded in the 24 hours leading up to that measurement, according to the National Weather Service.

At flood stage, minor flooding expands into woodland areas both upstream and downstream from the stream gage located on Georgia Highway 90. Larger portions of creek access roads are also subject to flooding under these conditions.

What to Expect

Forecasters with the National Weather Service predict Turkey Creek will crest at 10.6 feet just after midnight Saturday before beginning a gradual decline. The river is expected to fall back below minor flood stage by Saturday evening, when the warning is set to expire.

The projected crest of 10.6 feet matches a previous high recorded at the same location on February 13, 2024, according to the agency’s flood history data.

Safety Reminders

Residents in Dooly County near Turkey Creek and Georgia Highway 90 are urged to avoid flooded roadways and creek access roads. The National Weather Service directs the public to weather.gov/safety/flood for additional flood safety information.
