BOAZ, MISSOURI β The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a flood warning for the James River near Boaz, with minor flooding forecast to continue until 7:00 PM Monday as the river approaches bankfull stage.
The warning, issued at 12:32 PM Monday, affects Christian and Stone Counties as the James River rises toward a predicted crest of 10.0 feet this afternoon. At 11:45 AM Monday, the river stage measured 9.1 feet, approaching the 10.0-foot bankfull and flood stage threshold.
Flooding Impacts Expected
When the James River reaches 10.0 feet, low-lying areas near the river will experience flooding, according to the National Weather Service. Officials warn that flows may become dangerous for canoers and other river users during the flooding period.
The river is expected to crest at exactly the flood stage level of 10.0 feet, marking the point where minor flooding begins in the area. Bankfull stage, also at 10.0 feet, represents the level at which the river fills its normal channel capacity.
Safety Precautions Advised
