Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost Expected to Resign for Private Sector Job
Multiple statehouse sources confirm Ohio’s top prosecutor plans unexpected departure ahead of November elections.

COLUMBUS, OHIO β Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost is expected to resign from his position to take a private-sector job, according to multiple statehouse sources who spoke to reporters on Thursday.
The development was first reported by the Columbus Dispatch. Six statehouse sources who requested anonymity told WEWS/Ohio Capital Journal reporter Morgan Trau that Yost plans to leave his position ahead of the November election.
Yost’s spokesperson declined to confirm or deny the reports when contacted by News 5.
Background on Yost’s Career
Yost has held the attorney general position since 2019, after previously serving as the state auditor. The Republican official suspended his gubernatorial campaign in 2025 following the state GOP’s endorsement of Vivek Ramaswamy for governor.
He remains the only statewide Republican officeholder besides Governor Mike DeWine who is not currently running for office.
Developing Story
Reporter Morgan Trau was attending an event in London, Ohio, where Yost was present, and was working to gather additional information about the reported resignation.
The timing of the potential departure would come ahead of what is expected to be a significant election cycle in Ohio. The attorney general’s office oversees various state legal matters and consumer protection issues.
If confirmed, Yost’s resignation would create a vacancy in one of Ohio’s most prominent statewide elected positions. The process for filling such a vacancy would likely involve Governor DeWine making an appointment.
Sources described the potential move as a “surprise” given Yost’s current term and political standing within the state Republican Party.
