COLUMBUS, OHIO β€” The National Weather Service Pittsburgh issued a frost advisory and freeze warning for parts of east central Ohio, effective from midnight Monday through 8:00 AM EDT Tuesday, as temperatures are expected to drop to 30 degrees.

The frost advisory covers east central Ohio along with southwest and western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia, with temperatures forecast to reach 34 degrees. These conditions may harm sensitive outdoor vegetation.

A more severe freeze warning affects portions of northwest, southwest, and western Pennsylvania, along with northern West Virginia, where sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees are expected during the same timeframe.

Potential Damage to Plants and Property

Weather officials warn that sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered during the frost advisory period. The freeze warning poses a greater risk, as frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

The National Weather Service also cautioned that the freezing temperatures could damage unprotected outdoor plumbing in areas under the freeze warning.

Precautions for Residents

Residents in affected areas should take immediate action to protect vulnerable plants and outdoor equipment. Covering sensitive vegetation with blankets, tarps, or other protective materials can help prevent frost damage.

Those with exposed outdoor plumbing should consider taking preventive measures to avoid freeze damage, particularly in areas under the freeze warning where temperatures are expected to reach 30 degrees.

The weather alerts were issued Monday at 7:40 PM EDT and remain in effect until Tuesday morning at 8:00 AM EDT. Residents should monitor local weather conditions and take appropriate precautions before the overnight temperature drop.
