Two Rescued from Submerged Vehicle in Huron County Flood Waters

COLUMBUS — Two people were rescued from a submerged vehicle after flood waters overtook a roadway in Huron County, emergency officials reported Tuesday.
The rescue occurred when the occupants became trapped in their car after driving into flood waters on a county road. Emergency responders arrived on scene to find the vehicle partially submerged, according to local authorities.
Both individuals were successfully extracted from the vehicle and transported to safety. Their current condition was not immediately released by officials.
Flood Conditions Persist
The incident underscores ongoing flooding concerns across Huron County as heavy rains continue to impact the region. Several roadways remain impassable due to standing water, creating hazardous driving conditions.
Local emergency management agencies have been monitoring water levels throughout the county. Officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roadways, emphasizing that even shallow water can pose serious risks to vehicles and occupants.
Safety Warnings Issued
Emergency officials remind drivers that just six inches of moving water can knock a person down, while 12 inches of rushing water can carry away a vehicle. The National Weather Service motto “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” remains in effect for the area.
County road crews are working to assess damage and clear debris from affected roadways. Several roads remain closed as crews evaluate safety conditions and water levels.
The rescue team included local fire departments and emergency medical services who responded to the scene. No injuries were reported among the rescue personnel.
Weather forecasts indicate additional rainfall is possible in the coming days, which could worsen existing flood conditions. Residents are advised to monitor local weather alerts and road closure updates.
Officials continue to stress the need for finding alternate routes when encountering flooded roadways and never attempting to drive through standing or moving water.
