NORTH RIDGEVILLE, OHIO — A teenager was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle while riding an electric scooter Saturday evening, according to North Ridgeville police.

The collision occurred around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Center Ridge Road and Lear Nagle Road, police reported. The teenage victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after receiving reports of the accident. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigating officers, authorities said.

Investigation Underway

North Ridgeville police are conducting a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. Officers have not yet determined whether charges will be filed in connection with the incident.

The condition of the injured teenager has not been disclosed by authorities. Police have not released the names of those involved, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Electric Scooter Safety Concerns

The accident highlights growing safety concerns surrounding electric scooters and other personal mobility devices on roadways. These devices have become increasingly popular among young people in suburban communities across Ohio.

North Ridgeville officials have previously emphasized the importance of following traffic laws and wearing protective equipment when operating electric scooters and similar devices. State law requires riders to follow the same traffic rules as bicycle operators.

Traffic Impact and Response

The collision temporarily disrupted traffic flow along Center Ridge Road during the evening rush hour period. Police closed portions of the roadway while emergency crews responded to the scene and conducted their initial investigation.

Traffic was redirected around the crash site for approximately one hour while authorities cleared the area. Normal traffic patterns resumed by 8:30 p.m., according to police reports.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has additional information about the incident is encouraged to contact the North Ridgeville Police Department. The investigation remains active as officials work to determine the exact cause of the accident.
