COLUMBUS — Security cameras in a Columbus neighborhood have captured footage of hooded individuals as residents report a recent surge in criminal activity, according to local police reports and community members.

The footage shows multiple suspects wearing hoodies and face coverings moving through residential areas during evening hours. Police said they are investigating several incidents in the neighborhood over the past two weeks.

Residents have reported break-ins, vandalism, and suspicious activity in the area. The Columbus Division of Police confirmed they have received multiple calls from homeowners concerned about the increase in criminal behavior.

Security Footage Reveals Pattern

Home security systems captured images of at least three different individuals, all wearing dark hoodies with their faces obscured. The suspects appear to be targeting properties with limited lighting and minimal security measures, police said.

One resident, who asked not to be identified, said their doorbell camera recorded two hooded figures attempting to enter vehicles parked in driveways around 2 a.m. last Tuesday. The homeowner immediately contacted police after reviewing the footage.

“They were clearly looking for unlocked cars and checking for valuables,” the resident said. “It’s concerning that this is happening so frequently now.”

Police Increase Patrols

Columbus police have increased patrol frequency in the affected neighborhood following the reports. Officers are working with residents to review security footage and identify potential suspects.

Detective Sarah Martinez of the Columbus Division of Police said investigators are examining trends in the reported incidents. The department has not yet made any arrests related to the recent criminal activity.

“We’re taking these reports seriously and working closely with the community to address their concerns,” Martinez said. “We encourage residents to continue reporting suspicious activity and to secure their properties.”

Police recommend residents lock their vehicles, remove valuables from sight, and ensure outdoor lighting is functional. The department also suggests homeowners consider installing security cameras if possible.

Community Response

Neighborhood watch groups have formed in response to the incidents. Residents are sharing security footage through social media groups and coordinating with police to report suspicious activity.

The local community association plans to hold a safety meeting next week to discuss security measures with police representatives. Association president Mike Thompson said the meeting will focus on practical steps residents can take to protect their property.

Anyone with information about the hooded suspects or recent criminal activity is asked to contact Columbus police at 614-645-4545. Police said they are particularly interested in reviewing additional security footage from the affected area.
