Rip Current Warnings Issued for Multiple Florida Coastal Counties
Multiple Florida coastal counties face dangerous rip current warnings through Sunday night, with officials urging extreme caution for beachgoers.

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA β The National Weather Service has issued rip current statements for multiple Florida coastal counties, warning beachgoers of dangerous swimming conditions through late Sunday night.
The NWS Tallahassee office issued a rip current statement at 2:00 AM Sunday for Walton, Bay, Gulf, and Franklin County beaches, effective until 5:00 AM Monday. A separate alert from the NWS Melbourne office was issued at 1:43 AM for coastal areas of Volusia, Brevard, Indian River, Saint Lucie, and Martin counties, remaining in effect until 2:00 AM Monday.
Dangerous Conditions Expected
The Melbourne office warned of both dangerous rip currents and rough surf conditions along the Atlantic coast. Both weather service offices emphasized that rip currents pose a significant threat to all swimmers, regardless of experience level.
“Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water,” according to the National Weather Service warnings. The alerts cover beaches along both Florida’s Gulf and Atlantic coastlines.
Safety Recommendations
Weather officials advise beachgoers to exercise extreme caution when entering the water during the warning period. Rip currents are powerful channels of water moving away from shore that can quickly pull swimmers into deeper water.
The warnings remain active through late Sunday night, with conditions expected to improve early Monday morning. Residents and visitors planning beach activities should monitor local conditions and consider postponing water activities until conditions improve.
The National Weather Service continues to monitor coastal conditions and will update warnings as necessary. Both the Tallahassee and Melbourne offices serve different regions of Florida’s extensive coastline, providing specialized forecasts for their respective areas.
