NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE — Metro Nashville Police have identified the victim of a deadly shooting in the Hickory Hill area and launched a search for three suspects connected to the homicide.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 3400 block of Hickory Hill Road on Tuesday evening, where they discovered 28-year-old Marcus Thompson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Thompson was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

“We are actively pursuing leads and working to locate the three individuals believed to be involved in this incident,” said Metro Police spokesperson Don Aaron during a Wednesday press conference.

Investigation Details

Preliminary investigations suggest the shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. during what police describe as a possible drug-related dispute. Witnesses reported seeing three men flee the scene in a dark-colored sedan immediately after the gunshots rang out.

Police have not released detailed descriptions of the suspects but confirmed they are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses. Several residents in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots and called 911.

“The investigation is still in its early stages, but we believe this was a targeted incident rather than a random act of violence,” Aaron said.

Community Response

The shooting has rattled residents in the typically quiet Hickory Hill neighborhood, located in southeast Nashville. Local community leaders expressed concerns about recent violence in the area.

Thompson’s family has been notified of his death, and police are working with them to gather additional information about his recent activities and potential connections to the suspects.

Nashville has recorded 89 homicides so far this year, representing a 12% increase compared to the same period last year, according to Metro Police statistics.

Ongoing Investigation

Detectives from the Metro Nashville Police Department’s Homicide Unit are leading the investigation. They are canvassing the neighborhood for additional witnesses and examining physical evidence collected from the crime scene.

Police have established a tip line for anyone with information about the shooting. The department is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to arrests in the case.

“We encourage anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area Tuesday evening to contact us immediately,” Aaron said. “Even the smallest detail could be key to solving this case.”

The investigation remains active, and police expect to release additional details as they become available. No arrests have been made at this time.
