RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA — A portion of Forestville Road will shut down for about one month starting in spring 2026 as crews work to replace aging water infrastructure, the North Carolina Department of Transportation announced.

The closure will affect the section of Forestville Road between Needham Road and Spring Forest Road. NCDOT officials said the work is necessary to replace deteriorating water pipes beneath the roadway.

Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2026 and continue through May 2026, according to transportation officials. The exact start date will depend on weather conditions and contractor schedules.

Traffic Impacts and Detours

Drivers who regularly use this stretch of Forestville Road will need to find alternate routes during the construction period. NCDOT has not yet released specific detour information but said signed detour routes will be posted before work begins.

The affected area serves as a connector between residential neighborhoods and major thoroughfares in northern Wake County. Local businesses along the corridor may experience reduced traffic during the closure period.

Infrastructure Replacement Project

The pipe replacement project addresses aging water infrastructure that transportation officials say has reached the end of its useful life. The work requires complete road closure rather than lane restrictions due to the depth and scope of the underground construction.

NCDOT noted that the closure timeline could be adjusted based on construction progress and weather delays. Officials said they will provide regular updates to the public as the start date approaches.

Residents and businesses in the area are encouraged to plan alternative travel routes well in advance of the April 2026 construction start. Additional project details and detour maps will be made available on NCDOT’s website closer to the construction date.
