DEFIANCE, OHIO β€” The National Weather Service has extended flood warnings for several Ohio rivers following excessive runoff from recent heavy rainfall, with moderate flooding forecast along the Saint Joseph River and minor flooding expected on the Tiffin River.

The NWS Northern Indiana office issued flood warnings Tuesday night that remain in effect for multiple waterways affecting Ohio counties. The Saint Joseph River Ohio near Newville is impacting Allen County in Indiana along with Defiance and De Kalb Counties in Ohio, while the Saint Joseph River Ohio below Montpelier affects Williams County.

The Tiffin River at Stryker is also under a flood warning, affecting Fulton County in Ohio as well as Defiance and Williams Counties.

Flash Flood Threat Ends

A flood watch that had been in effect expired at 8:00 AM Wednesday morning after the National Weather Service determined the threat for significant flash flooding had ended. The watch had been issued at 7:43 AM Wednesday by the NWS Northern Indiana office.

According to the weather service, excessive runoff from recent heavy rainfall continues to cause minor to moderate flooding on many rivers across the region. Additional heavy rain forecast in the coming days could worsen the flooding conditions.

River-by-River Forecast

For the Saint Joseph River Ohio, including areas near Montpelier, Newville, and St. Joe River Fort Wayne, moderate flooding is forecast. The Tiffin River, including Stryker, faces minor flooding conditions.

The flood warnings also extend into Indiana, where the Tippecanoe River near Ora is affecting Pulaski County with minor flooding forecast for areas including Ora, Winamac, and Norway Dam. The North Branch Elkhart River at Cosperville continues under a flood warning affecting Noble County in Indiana.

Residents in affected areas should monitor local conditions and avoid driving through flooded roadways. The National Weather Service continues to monitor river levels and weather conditions across the region.
