TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA β€” The National Weather Service issued rip current statements for multiple North Florida beach areas Thursday morning, warning beachgoers of dangerous conditions that will persist through late Friday night.

The warnings, issued at 5:06 a.m. EDT on April 10, affect Walton County beaches and Franklin County beaches, with hazardous rip currents expected to continue until 6:00 a.m. EDT on April 11.

Safety Concerns for Swimmers

According to the National Weather Service Tallahassee office, rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. The dangerous conditions pose significant risks to anyone entering the water along the affected coastlines.

Walton County beaches face the hazardous conditions through late Thursday night, while Franklin County beaches will experience dangerous rip currents through late Friday night.

What Beachgoers Should Know

Rip currents are powerful, narrow channels of fast-moving water that flow away from shore. These currents can quickly pull swimmers into deeper waters, making it difficult to return to safety even for experienced swimmers.

The weather service advises beachgoers to stay out of the water during the warning period. Those who must enter should do so only in areas with lifeguards present and should never swim alone.

Ongoing Weather Monitoring

The National Weather Service continues to monitor coastal conditions along the Florida Panhandle. Both warnings remain in effect as meteorologists track the weather patterns contributing to the dangerous surf conditions.

Beach visitors should check current conditions and warnings before heading to the coast. Local emergency management officials recommend postponing water activities until conditions improve and the rip current statements are lifted.
