COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus police have identified a person of interest in the fatal shooting of a Mason native and his wife found dead in their home earlier this week.

The victims were discovered Monday morning at a residence on the city’s northeast side, according to Columbus Division of Police. Investigators have not released the names of the deceased pending notification of family members.

Police said they are actively searching for the person of interest but declined to provide additional details about the individual’s identity or relationship to the victims.

Investigation Details

The double homicide occurred at a home in the 2800 block of Azelda Street. Officers responded to the scene after receiving a welfare check call from concerned family members who had not heard from the couple in several days.

Both victims suffered apparent gunshot wounds, police reported. The Franklin County Coroner’s Office will conduct autopsies to determine the exact cause of death.

Detective James Morrison, who is leading the investigation, said evidence collected at the scene has helped narrow the focus of the case. “We are following up on several leads and working around the clock to bring closure to this family,” Morrison said.

Community Impact

The Mason native had lived in Columbus for approximately five years, according to neighbors. The couple was known in their neighborhood as quiet and friendly residents who kept to themselves.

“They were good people who didn’t deserve this,” said Sarah Chen, who lives across the street from the victims. “It’s scary to think something like this could happen so close to home.”

Columbus police have increased patrols in the neighborhood following the incident. Captain Robert Hayes said the department is treating this as an isolated case but urged residents to remain vigilant.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Columbus police at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477. Crime Stoppers offers rewards up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
