COLUMBUS — The National Weather Service issued multiple severe thunderstorm warnings for the Columbus area Monday evening, with the most recent alert in effect from 5:48 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. EDT, according to the Charleston, West Virginia office.

The series of warnings began at 5:26 p.m. and were extended through 6:15 p.m. as dangerous weather conditions persisted across the region. The alerts followed an earlier severe thunderstorm watch issued at 2:44 p.m. by the Pittsburgh office that remains active until 8:00 p.m.

Storm Warnings Issued in Succession

Weather officials issued three consecutive severe thunderstorm warnings within a 22-minute span. The first warning took effect at 5:26 p.m. and expired at 5:45 p.m., followed by an updated warning at 5:42 p.m. extending until 6:15 p.m.

The Charleston Weather Service office then issued the most recent warning at 5:48 p.m., shortening the end time to 6:00 p.m. All warnings originated from the same Charleston office, indicating coordinated tracking of the storm system.

Widespread Flooding Concerns Continue

The severe weather comes as multiple flood warnings remain in effect across the broader region. The National Weather Service Northern Indiana office issued flood warnings beginning at 12:22 p.m., with some alerts extending until April 7.

The Pittsburgh Weather Service office also activated flood warnings starting at 12:16 p.m., with the longest advisory lasting until April 4 at 12:00 p.m. One flood warning issued at 3:41 p.m. by the Northern Indiana office will remain active until April 4 at 8:00 a.m.

Regional Weather Pattern

The combination of severe thunderstorm activity and ongoing flood conditions reflects a weather pattern affecting the Ohio Valley and surrounding areas. The multiple weather service offices coordinating alerts shows the widespread nature of the storm system.

Officials have not yet reported specific damage or impacts from the evening’s severe weather activity. The overlapping warnings suggest meteorologists tracked a persistent storm cell requiring continuous monitoring and updated advisories.

Residents in the affected areas should continue monitoring weather conditions and heed all official warnings and advisories issued by the National Weather Service.
